These two secksay humans are too hot for their own good. I mean… if I didn’t see them in real life then I would probably say that they weren’t real people and don’t exist in real life. 🙂
In all honesty, Carlie and Jackson are absolutely darrrrrrrling! They’re both so real and so fun! They’re the kind of people you want to hate but you just… can’t… quite… do it. They’re just so nice and awesome to hate. They’re absolutely wonderful!
Let’s start from the beginning. Let’s take it back to February of this year… I was approached by Leslie of Leslie Dawn Events to photograph an inspiration shoot with local vendors. Carlie Butler (Carlie Stylez) was the model for the shoot. She was a doll! She was funny, and real, and candid, and so easy to work with. We all joked about how we were practicing for the future day when she would be married. Little did I know that I would get to photograph the event! Woot woot!
I was over the moon excited when Carlie told me she wanted me to shoot her engagement session. In fact, I’ll also be shooting her reception on November 21st… which I’m also super duper crazy excited about.
The sand dunes… I had been texting Carlie about locations. I couldn’t shake the idea of shooting out at the sand dunes. It kept popping up in my mind. I KNEW these two needed a session there. I suggested wearing formal clothes to contrast the color and organic dunes. #nailedit
Jackson wore a fantastic fitted black suit with a black skull skinny tie and matching socks from J.Crew. He rocked that suit like nobuddy’s bisnass.
Carlie transformed herself into a stunning temptress in her black evening gown with lace sleeves. Most people can’t wear a dress that’s completely covering your body and still look hot and tempting… but Carlie can. Oh yes… Carlie can.
We caravaned to the dunes. We met at Maverick to get some drinkies for the crew… (i.e. Me, Greg, Amanda (new intern) and Kira (amazing second photographer). We headed out ready to take on the world. The sand dunes were about an hour and a half from Provo, Utah where we met up. We were about an hour into our journey when the gas light came on.
Guys… I almost wet myself…
I couldn’t believe it.
We were in the middle of NOWHERE! Seriously… AND! I drive a Jetta that takes diesel. So when we found a teeny tiny little gas station, they didn’t have diesel. So we made the decision to leave Greg with the Jetta to search for gas and the rest of us to jump into the car with Carlie and Jackson.
Side note: Remember how we met them at a gas station? I’m still kicking myself over that irony.
We settled ourselves in and pressed forward.
Except we may or may not have been going a bit fast… and were then pulled over by the po po. hahahaaha! Jackson’s a little speed demon. We all had a bit of a laugh (a nervous laugh)… we took the ticket, gave the man a spankins and kept driving.
K, we really didn’t give the police officer a spankins but it woulda been funny if we didn’t have somewhere to be.
As we approached the dunes, Kira and I started screaming. It was gorgeous! White sandy hills in the middle of central Utah. What the random! I was dying. I died. Died.
I climbed to the top to see what I could see and I saw this cute Dr Suess tree and knew that’s where we needed to start.
Their outfits were perfect for capturing the epic silhouette images that I had in my head. Every movement of Carlie’s flowy dress was magical. I shot the first part of the session with them backlit and the sun spilling into my lens to get that sun kissed look. I wanted to get some sitting down shots in the shade, so I found a higher dune and had them sit at the bottom of it to get some closer up shots. Then we finished on the top of the dunes with the sunset behind. We actually kept shooting well after the sun went down. I knew I wanted some cooler images that I could put into black and white.
We accomplished a lot! I shot the session, Greg filmed a lip synch for us, and Kira got some great behind the scenes images. I was SO proud of us. We rocked this shoot!
Thank you SO much Carlie and Jackson for letting me hang out with you. We had such and adventure together and I can’t wait to celebrate your big day with you! Thanks again!
|Kira said… ‘okay! I’m taking your picture!’ And then I placed myself accordingly.|
